Woman doing a bicep curlPersonal training helps you stay focused and motivated to achieve your fitness goals. Browse some of the common questions around personal training.

Why do I need a Personal Trainer?

Personal trainers are there to help you keep focused and motivated and achieve your fitness goals. You need a personal trainer to ensure you are doing the correct exercises, the correct repetitions and using the correct techniques to ensure you don’t injure yourself.

How long before I see results?

This depends on how often you attend your sessions. If you train with me once a week, and do other gym training sessions on your own (1-3 times a week) you should start to feel results within 2 weeks and see results after a month.

What are the benefits of using a personal trainer?

The benefits of training regularly with a personal trainer are numerous. You have someone who helps you understand exactly what you want to achieve and helps you set quantifiable goals.

They will select the correct exercises for you so you meet your goals sooner. They set up a training programme for you so you have some focus when you train on other days at the gym.

Personal trainers also keep you motivated and support you through your training. They also ensure you don’t over train or exert yourself.

How much does it cost?

Costs vary according to the programmes you select. Costs are usually R250 an hour but discounts are available on block booking packages. Click here to see personal training prices and available packages.

How do I know what to expect?

Before you commit to anything you can meet with me in a free one-to-one consultation. Here you discuss your needs and fitness goals. After this meeting, if we get on and you feel my methods will work for you, you can then sign up for a package to suit your needs. Click here to book a free consultation.

Do I have to be a member of a gym?

No you don’t. Depending on your fitness goals you could attend personal training sessions hosted at home, on your bike or at a private studio, situated in Claremont, Cape Town.

What kind of training do you offer?

I offer resistance based training for body toning or muscle building. Cardio based workouts, which help you control your weight, increase energy, and if you wish, even run a marathon. I can structure a training programme around any fitness goal you may have.

How often do I have to train with my personal trainer?

Again this is dependent on your goals. This could be once to three times a week.

Where are you based?

I’m based in Claremont, Cape Town. I offer home and outdoor training around the Cape Town area. Working with you we can create a customised training programme which you can use at your local gym, at home or at the studio.

Will you be able to help me set fitness goals?

The clearer you can be on what you are looking to achieve, the happier you will be with your training. I will try understand your motivations and look to set actual measurements to your goals. How do you know what you’ve achieved if you cant measure it? I find this really is motivating when my clients actually see real results.

How will I see an improvement, do you monitor my performance?

Yes, and this depends on what you are trying to achieve. I measure a variety of things from body fat percentage and body measurements to heart rate and fitness levels.

So what happens when my training programme comes to an end?

Hopefully when you finish your training programme you will feel more confident to train on your own. You will have learnt solid techniques and you should have picked up good training habits. Your motivation levels should still be high. I do, however, offer Back On Track programmes (refresher sessions), where you can book yourself in for a session to keep yourself on track.

Can you offer dietary advice?

No, not specifically, but we do know what works and how you should be eating according to your training needs. I can supply you with healthy living guidelines to complement your training programme, and you will see results.

If you have any food allergies, diabetes or eating disorders, I can recommend you to a nutritionist/ dietician.

I am really overweight and scared of coming to a gym. Any advice?

Sometimes starting something new is scary, but at least you are thinking about changing your current lifestyle. I like to think of myself as friendly and approachable, and you can discuss all your worries when we meet for your free consultation in a relaxed atmosphere.

I would recommend though that before you start any exercise programme that you consult your doctor first.
